Never pay for yourself. No matter what. Sounds kind of crazy but it's true (for a first date at least). A guy will take you paying for yourself as "you don't need me, you don't want me. Why am I here?" If he refuses to pay for you then leave. Flat out. It's common courtesy to pay for a woman. The more independent you act, the farther you are pushed away from your date.
